Why does the source rock matter?
The Pwalugu deposit is a Birimian muscovite-biotite granite — hard, well-cemented and with the angular fracture that makes it effective in concrete, asphalt and road construction. Because it is crushed and graded locally, delivered cost to northern Ghana is structurally lower than equivalent material transported from southern quarries.
