03b — DIMENSION STONE

Sawn & split granite for masonry, kerbs and hard landscaping

Birimian muscovite-biotite granite from Pwalugu, cut and split to dimension-stone specification for foundations, load-bearing masonry, kerbing and paving. A structural stone from the same deposit as our aggregate.

01 — PRODUCT OVERVIEW

What is granite dimension stone used for?

Dimension stone is quarried granite cut or split to defined sizes for structural and hard-landscaping applications. From our Pwalugu deposit — a hard, dense Birimian muscovite-biotite granite — we supply sawn blocks for load-bearing masonry and foundations, and split stone for kerbs, paving and retaining walls.

Granite dimension stone carries structural loads well, resists weathering and abrasion, and requires no surface treatment in most applications. The same hardness that makes the crushed aggregate perform in roads makes the parent rock a reliable choice for masonry and pavement.

02 — APPLICATIONS

Where is granite dimension stone specified?

Foundations & footings

Mass granite blocks for strip and pad foundations where natural stone replaces concrete in traditional construction.

Load-bearing masonry

Sawn blocks for load-bearing wall construction in government and institutional buildings across the north.

Kerbs & road edging

Split kerb stones for road and pathway edging — hard-wearing and stable under traffic.

Retaining walls

Dry-laid or mortared retaining walls using dimension stone blocks for drainage channels, terracing and earthwork retention.

Paving & hard landscaping

Sawn setts and flags for external paving in institutional, commercial and civic settings.

Building rubble & fill

Quarry rubble for hardcore, plinth fill and base courses where dimensional precision is not required.

03 — MATERIAL CHARACTER

What makes Pwalugu granite a good dimension stone?

The Birimian muscovite-biotite granite at Pwalugu has the physical properties that matter in dimension stone: high compressive strength, low water absorption, and the resistance to weathering that gives exterior masonry and paving a long service life in Ghana's climate.

The characteristic appearance — silver and grey ground with copper and black mineral flecks and a pink feldspar tone — produces a material with natural character that suits both the functional masonry of institutional buildings and the more visible facade and landscaping work of private development.
